HUNTINGTON – The City of Huntington will celebrate the upcoming Fourth of July holiday with a community fireworks show at dusk on Friday, July 1.

The fireworks launch area will be in the same location as last year – Huntington University’s cross country course, near the intersection of Gragg Street and Stults Road. Viewing areas will be located adjacent to the launch site on the campuses of Parkview Huntington Hospital, the Huntington YMCA and Crestview Middle School.

Parking along both sides of 500 N will be available starting at 6 p.m. the evening of the show. Huntington Police officers will direct traffic entering from both directions on Stults Road to help vehicles flow steadily onto 500 N and ensure hospital access in case of emergency. Drivers should follow all instructions provided by traffic directors when arriving.

The rain date is Sunday, July 3.

Residents who want to enjoy fireworks at their homes are reminded to use good judgment and be courteous to their neighbors. City Ordinance 98.41 permits setting off fireworks within city limits from:

  • 5 p.m. to two hours past sunset June 29 through July 9.
  • 10 a.m. to midnight July 4.
  • 10 a.m. December 31 to 1 a.m. January 1.

Anyone who would like to volunteer for fireworks cleanup should contact Volunteer Coordinator Mike Skeens at (260) 356-1400 ext. 2003. Cleanup will begin at 8 the morning after the show and take approximately two to three hours, depending on how many volunteers sign up.
