HUNTINGTON – Joining communities and local arts organizations across the country, the City of Huntington recognized the month of October as National Arts and Humanities Month in Huntington with a proclamation ceremony on Tuesday afternoon.

The Joyful Songsters, a group for people with disabilities who enjoy singing, opened the ceremony with a performance of "You Are Looking Good, America." The Joyful Songsters are part of Community Choirs of Huntington County.

The National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities, along with thousands of local arts agencies, have celebrated National Arts and Humanities Month for nearly 30 years. The purpose is to draw attention to the value and importance of the arts and humanities in enriching residents' lives, particularly among disadvantaged groups, and contributing toward a vibrant and thriving community.

In Huntington, the Lafontaine Arts Council and the Huntington Arts & Entrepreneurial Center provide arts-related classes for residents and events throughout the year that not only enrich our community, but also create jobs in the arts and attract visitors to our community, spurring economic activity that helps support our local businesses.
